Aledo opens its municipal complex and starts the year with a new city manager and its own police department

The Jan. 10 ribbon-cutting capped a year in which the city hired its first police chief and selected Candice Edmondson to run City Hall.

The City of Aledo opened the Aledo Municipal Complex with a ribbon-cutting and community open house on Saturday, Jan. 10. City offices are now at 200 Old Annetta Road, replacing the old City Hall on Maverick Street. The building was financed with the city's Series 2022 certificates of obligation, the only city debt paid from property taxes; the payment this year is $902,038.

Candice Edmondson, previously city manager of Richland Hills and a Parker County native, was selected unanimously by the council and began in early January. Carol L. Riddle was sworn in as the city's first chief of police in 2025 to build the department, which began operations in January 2026. The city still contracts with the Parker County Sheriff's Office for two deputies overnight, down from three deputies around the clock before the department existed.

Officer David J. Griesinger was sworn in early in 2026, one of several hires as the force builds out.

October sales tax allocation to the city: $220,671, down 0.5% from a year earlier; 2026 stands at $2,221,575 through ten months, 8.7% ahead of 2025

The October 2026 payment is the first month of 2026 to come in below the same month of 2025. The 2026 total through October, $2,221,575, is the highest ten-month total in the Comptroller's series, which begins in 2013; the same months of 2025 totaled $2,043,811. Calendar 2025 closed at $2,506,603.

Aledo golf cart ordinance: what the adopted rules say. Carts on public streets posted 35 mph or less, with a plate, lamps, insurance and a licensed driver; helmets under 17 on bicycles and e-bikes (2026-O-24 and 2026-O-25)

Both ordinances passed by unanimous vote on Sept. 17, 2026 and add Article V, Vehicles, to Chapter 77 of the municipal code; ATVs, utility vehicles and recreational off-highway vehicles stay off streets and sidewalks, and a parent answers for a child's violation.
