Trustees Rigues and Stringer had a lengthy exchange over House Bill 5 training with no resolution. Every vote was unanimous.
The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met March 17, 2014, with all seven trustees present. Aledo Middle School's band reported on its Chicago trip. Superintendent Derek Citty announced Bell Helicopter's donation of two helicopter shells worth several hundred thousand dollars for student use, the 2025 Committee's March 4 start, and the May election field: David Davis and Farida Goderya for Place 6, and Hoyt Harris, Riley Morrison and Debra Rogers for Place 7. The board commended state swimmers and state choir students. Harris reported 292 tickets sold for the Bearcats and Boots event. Bobby J. Rigues reported TASB's grassroots top ten issues, led by adequacy and equity, and the winter governance conference's focus on House Bill 5, and asked the board to reconsider its role in implementing the bill; President Jay Stringer questioned Rigues' willingness to present the bill to the board, and the minutes record a lengthy discussion with no resolution. A United Educators Association representative reported a $100 donation to the foundation in the board's honor. The consent agenda passed 7-0.
Stringer reviewed the board training calendar and proposed TASB's Kay Douglas for a June 16 board evaluation; Johnny Campbell suggested keeping the approved 2013-2014 calendar and deciding next year's later. The board approved, 7-0, the repeal of all previously adopted policies and adoption of the local policies prepared by TASB Policy Service. With David Davis having left, it approved, each 6-0: the instructional allotment certification; Proclamation materials; staffing projections; a bad-weather day waiver; an innovative course; and the McAnally traffic flow conceptual plan and release of engineering fees. After an executive session from 9:12 to 9:26 p.m., it approved Sherry Taylor as human resources director, 6-0, and adjourned at 9:27 p.m.
