Aledo Community Center, 104 Robinson Court

Planning commission backs the Mid-Park replat on Dean Drive and the open-space and dark-sky code changes

A tree-preservation amendment was pulled after the city attorney said it was outside the commission's purview.

The Aledo Planning and Zoning Commission met Jan. 8, 2026, at the Aledo Community Center with Chair Matt Poston, Vice Chair Holly Robertson, Commissioners Jessica Dobbins and Dolan Aucoin, and Alternate Sandra Smith present. During public comment, a representative of Westbrook Companies complimented the commission for addressing the tree ordinance and asked for clarification of a statement in the training presentation.

The commission unanimously forwarded a positive recommendation, with conditions, on the replat of Lot 2 of the Mid-Park Business Community, 5.231 acres along Dean Drive near Bankhead Highway, into five lots of 0.989, 0.783, 1.600, 0.930 and 0.929 acres. Grant Fore of the Berkley Group said the property was annexed in June 2025 and the owner, Moncrief Properties, proposes lots of 0.9 to 1.6 acres; the conditions are that the applicant address all outstanding plat and construction plan review comments.

After public hearings, the commission unanimously recommended the amendments to the Unified Development Code's open space standards on the dedication of parkland and open space within subdivisions, and to the lighting standards adopting the illumination standards of the International Dark Sky Association. A proposed amendment to the tree preservation article of Chapter 22 was removed from the agenda after discussion with the city attorney determined it was not within the commission's purview. Fore also presented a training session on plats and permits and led a discussion of the size allowance for historic decorative pole signs in the Downtown district. The meeting adjourned at 7:04 p.m.
