A reconstituted planning commission elects Jessica Dobbins chair and gets its Planning 101 and open-meetings training
Three new commissioners and a new alternate took their seats after the council's May 7 appointments.
The Aledo Planning and Zoning Commission met May 14, 2026, at 200 Old Annetta Road with Commissioners Jessica Dobbins, Rebecca Griffith, Ryan Henning and Derek Sellers and Alternate Jeff Streetman present. In the absence of a chair the meeting was called to order at 6:04 p.m. Mayor Shane Davis addressed the commission during public comment, thanking the members for their willingness to serve and speaking to the role of public service and thoughtful decision-making in guiding the city's growth.
The commission approved the April 9 minutes and unanimously elected Dobbins chair. Grant Fore of the Berkley Group gave a Planning 101 presentation covering the development process, zoning procedures, the commission's responsibilities, application types, platting and subdivision regulations, variances and the Board of Adjustment, and state law on plats and development review. City Attorney Elizabeth Yelverton presented training for newly appointed officials on the Open Meetings Act, the Public Information Act, quorum and deliberation rules, public comment, executive sessions, conflicts of interest, and ethics and disclosure.
Fore also reviewed the ongoing Unified Development Code updates for Senate Bill 785 on HUD-code manufactured homes, including the new MH district, its permitted uses and standards, future consideration of where manufactured housing will be zoned, and the timeline for the commission, with the changes intended to align the code with the law by its Sept. 1, 2026, effective date. The meeting adjourned at 6:57 p.m.
