Aledo Community Center, 104 Robinson Court

Planning commission recommends pole-sign placard limits, downtown monument-sign criteria, and definitions that fold title and payday loans into cash-advance establishments

No one spoke at any of the three public hearings.

The Aledo Planning and Zoning Commission met Feb. 12, 2026, at the Aledo Community Center with Chair Matt Poston, Vice Chair Holly Robertson, Commissioner Jessica Dobbins and Alternate Sandra Smith present. No one came forward during public comment, and approval of the December and January minutes was removed from the agenda.

The commission unanimously forwarded positive recommendations on two signage amendments to the Unified Development Code: the maximum area and number of placards allowed for historic decorative pole signs, following discussions at the December and January meetings, and criteria for approving a Specific Use Permit for a monument sign in the Downtown district. Discussion of the second included the code's 60% rule for nonconforming signs destroyed by storm damage.

It also unanimously recommended new definitions of adult store, cash advance establishment, pawn shop and vape/CBD shop, with an amendment adding title loans and payday loans to the cash advance definition. Commissioners asked whether there was a numerical limit on vape shops and were told the uses are limited by zoning location. Grant Fore of the Berkley Group led a training session on plat design and technical review, and the meeting adjourned at 6:28 p.m.
