School board adopts the 2013-2014 campus plans and the guaranteed maximum price for the high school and Learning Center projects, hears a perfect 70 on School FIRST, and makes a contract-abandonment finding against a teacher

Every vote was 7-0. The demographer gave a ten-year forecast and House Bill 5's 84 sections were outlined; a Bell Helicopter partnership was previewed.

The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met Oct. 21, 2013, with all seven trustees present. Vandagriff Elementary presented its student leadership program. Superintendent Derek Citty noted the governor's designation of Oct. 12 as Public School Human Resources Appreciation Day and thanked the district's principals during Texas principals' month. The board commended a National Achievement Program participant and eight National Merit commended students and semifinalists. Dr. David Tillman reported the Community Partners' membership had doubled; Hoyt Harris reported the foundation was setting gift levels; Bobby J. Rigues reported on the TASA/TASB convention. A resident spoke about the budget. The consent agenda passed 7-0.

Chief Financial Officer Earl Husfeld and Rocky Gardiner of Templeton Demographics presented the housing market and a ten-year student growth forecast; Denise Dugger presented the performance-based monitoring report and House Bill 5's 84 sections on curriculum, assessment and accountability, with Scott Kessel on graduation requirements and Kathy Allen on flexibility and a potential Bell Helicopter partnership; Husfeld reported a perfect 70 on School FIRST; and the Christmas card winners were announced.

After a recess, the board approved, each 7-0: the 2013-2014 campus plans; the guaranteed maximum price on the high school and Learning Center projects; the School Health Advisory Committee; a budget amendment; changes to the board operating procedure manual; and a high school band trip to Colorado. After an executive session from 9:07 to 9:30 p.m., it voted 7-0 to find under Education Code Section 21.210(c)(2) that good cause did not exist for a term-contract teacher's abandonment of her contract, and 7-0 to authorize the president to notify the State Board for Educator Certification and seek sanctions; the Ledger does not name employees who are the subject of personnel action. The meeting adjourned at 9:43 p.m.
