Aledo ISD Board Room, 1008 Bailey Ranch Road

School board adopts the 2015-2016 budget after a hearing with ten speakers and a superintendent's statement on the 2010 tax election, and sets the rate vote for Sept. 15

The superintendent said the board had three options: raise the debt rate, use fund balance, or cut the maintenance rate. Adult meal prices rose to $3.50. Every vote passed without dissent.

The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met in special session Aug. 31, 2015, with all seven trustees present, for a hearing on the 2015-2016 budget and proposed tax rate. Superintendent Derek Citty addressed what he called misinformation in the community about the 2010 tax ratification election and said the board had three options: raise the interest and sinking rate to meet the shortfall, shift fund balance to cover it, or cut the maintenance and operations rate. Chief Financial Officer Earl Husfeld presented the budget. Ten residents spoke, on the 2010 election, teacher salaries, the tax increase for and against, the budget and the bond proceeds, and a statement from two more was read.

The board adopted the 2015-2016 budget, 7-0, agreed to a special meeting Sept. 15 to set the tax rate, approved adult meal prices amended to $3.50, 6-0 with Dr. David Tillman out of the room, and approved the final amended 2014-2015 budget, 7-0. In their comments trustees thanked the community for participating, said teachers should enjoy the raise, and said the board would put a plan in print on transparency, accountability and teacher salaries at the Sept. 15 meeting. The meeting adjourned at 8:49 p.m.
