School board adopts extended COVID-19 leave for staff, buys network equipment for two middle schools and the new elementary, and postpones the superintendent's contract
Vice President Jessica Brown presided at a meeting that ran until 11:27 p.m. Three residents spoke. The administration corrected the leave template before the vote.
The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met Sept. 21, 2021, with Vice President Jessica Brown presiding and Trustees Forrest Collins, Julie Turner, Jennifer Loftin, Jennifer Taylor and David Lear present. Superintendent Susan Bohn reported on Start With Hello Week, COVID-19 case numbers and the district's construction projects. Collins reported on the close of the second special legislative session and the start of the third. Three members of the community spoke on non-agenda items. The consent agenda, including a general fund budget amendment, passed 6-0.
The board approved, each 6-0: the 2021-2022 School Health Advisory Council members; a resolution on extended COVID-19 leave during the pandemic, after the administration noted that the template in the public board book had wrongly stated that personal leave must be exhausted first and that the leave would be available immediately to staff with a positive COVID-19 test for themselves or a member of their household; and network equipment for Aledo Middle School, McAnally Middle School and the new Vandagriff Elementary.
After an executive session that began at 8:23 p.m. on the superintendent's performance update and contract, the board postponed discussion and action on the superintendent's contract. Assistant Superintendent Amber Crissey and Director of Special Programs Rebecca Faulkner reported on the instructional focus and special education, Director of Construction and Facilities Tyler Boswell and Chief Financial Officer Earl Husfeld reviewed the 2019 bond projects and budget, Deputy Superintendent Lynn McKinney outlined the improvement-plan timeline, and Husfeld gave public notice of the 2021-2022 federal grant applications. The meeting adjourned at 11:27 p.m.
