Board votes to intervene in the accountability lawsuit against the state and asks the community to advocate on school funding

The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met in special session at 8 a.m. Oct. 2, 2023, with Trustees Forrest Collins, Zachary Tarrant, Jennifer Loftin, Jennifer Taylor and David Lear present.
Collins, Superintendent Susan Bohn and trustees discussed the board's Sept. 19 approval of Resolution 09192023-1 on vouchers and school funding and a joint letter among Texas school districts on school funding and vouchers, and asked the community for help advocating for school funding. The board then voted 5-0 on a motion by Collins, seconded by Tarrant, to approve a resolution authorizing intervention in the accountability lawsuit against the State of Texas, Cause No. D-1-GN-23-004675, and to join the suit; a consultation with legal counsel on the case was posted for closed session. On an item presented by Chief Facilities and Construction Officer Chris Campbell, the board voted 5-0 to authorize the superintendent to negotiate and execute a utility easement agreement with FG Aledo Development, LLC, for a shared water line benefiting Lynn McKinney Elementary School.
