School board gives McAnally's departing principal a standing ovation, hears Morningstar's developers, reviews the 2015 refunding savings and approves the superintendent's contract
The education foundation's gala raised $175,000. Every vote was 7-0; a Morningstar resolution was discussed with no motion.
The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met April 20, 2015, with all seven trustees present. McAnally Intermediate's principal, Bob Harmon, and students presented the new Students With A Purpose service club with 70 members, and the board thanked Harmon for his leadership with a standing ovation. Superintendent Derek Citty previewed town halls, the candidate forum, the Lions Club bond presentation and the May 9 election, reported Title I compliance, and listed weekend storm damage. Tim Fleet and Kim Gill of Morningstar Development Group presented their housing development. The board recognized the state debate team, an FFA student, a state powerlifter and state band soloists. Hoyt Harris reported the Bearcats and Boots gala raised $175,000 and would move to the Worthington. Bobby J. Rigues reported on TASB's policy language on trustees and board members. Three residents spoke, on teacher salaries, writing instruction and the boys basketball program.
The consent agenda passed 7-0. Deputy Superintendent Lynn McKinney reported on the teacher and parent surveys; Chief Financial Officer Earl Husfeld presented the fund balance report, a Fitch rating on the 2015 refunding, and the refunding's savings as prepared by BOSC, Inc. A Morningstar Development resolution was discussed with no motion.
The board approved, each 7-0: the 2015 Proclamation materials; the instructional materials certification; a bad-weather day waiver; and a 2014-2015 calendar revision. After an executive session on personnel from 9:15 to 9:50 p.m., it approved the superintendent's contract, teacher contracts and a science specialist, each 7-0, and thanked Johnny Campbell for ten years of service. The meeting adjourned at 10 p.m.
