School board hears the spring demographic update, honors nine-year trustee David Davis, and hires a communications director on a 5-1 vote
Meetings stay on the third Monday. Six residents spoke, and trustees debated how to handle the SHAC's cultural inclusiveness plan.
The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met June 19, 2017, with six trustees present once Dr. David Tillman arrived at 6:12 p.m. In a work session, Trent Smith of Templeton Demographics presented the spring 2017 demographic update; Superintendent Derek Citty reviewed proposed changes to the board operating procedures, and the board kept meetings on the third Monday after weighing Tuesdays or Thursdays. Forrest Collins raised the board's responsibility for the cultural inclusiveness plan and suggested a work session and a different name; Bobby J. Rigues asked that the School Health Advisory Council's work be respected; Tillman suggested a Parent University topic.
The board honored the golf teams, Texas History Day students and a science teaching award winner, recognized Bearcat Academy graduates, and gave outgoing trustee David Davis an award for nine years of service. Citty reviewed his 2017 goals and read a letter to McCall families about the resignation of the campus's principal. Jennifer Loftin reported the foundation's golf tournament grossed more than $60,000, and Rigues reported the 85th session's close and a special session with 19 issues. Six residents spoke, on the budget and teacher salaries, the cultural inclusiveness plan, the McCall resignation, policy BED(Local), the superintendent's goals and personnel.
The consent agenda, approved 6-0, included 2017-2018 lunchroom prices, E-Rate and a technology purchase. The CTE coordinator presented a needs assessment, Chief Financial Officer Earl Husfeld presented budget projections, and Husfeld and Buford Thompson Construction updated Walsh Elementary. The board approved, each 6-0, additional Daniel Ninth Grade Campus parking lot lights, summer maintenance projects and policy FFA(Local). After an executive session from 9:40 to 11:18 p.m. that included the safety audit report, it approved Rick Herrin as director of communications, 5-1, with Rigues voting against, and adjourned at 11:19 p.m.
