School board canvasses the Nov. 5 bond election, charters the Bond Progress Committee, names its construction subcommittee and casts 1,005 appraisal-district votes for Sterling Naron

The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met Nov. 18, 2019, with all seven trustees present. President Hoyt Harris thanked the public for voting in the bond election and said a bond page on the district website would be live by the end of the week and the bond would be discussed at every meeting. Superintendent Susan Bohn reported that instructional rounds had visited 162 classrooms and that transportation was reworking bus routes around the closure of parts of East Bankhead Highway. Julie Turner reported the PTO's Big Kahuna fundraiser raised $104,000 and the Aledo Education Foundation's first clay shoot approximately $22,000. Forrest Collins reported the legislative subcommittee had met on House Bill 3.
Aledo Middle School presented. The board commended the high school wind ensemble as a national winner in the Foundation for Music Education's Mark of Excellence project, all-region jazz band members, the middle school Honor Winds, the Bearcat Regiment's ninth place at the UIL state marching contest, and the cross country team's state results including first- and second-place individual finishes and a sixth-place boys team. A resident spoke about a grievance, and the district's nominee to the appraisal district board spoke on that item. The consent agenda, approved 7-0, included the textbook committee for grades 9-12 English language arts adoption.
The board approved, each 7-0: an order canvassing the returns of the bond election held Nov. 5, 2019; the charge and membership of the Bond Progress Committee, which Bohn said would meet quarterly and report monthly; the appointment of Collins, Jessica Brown and David Lear to the bond construction subcommittee; and the nomination of Sterling Naron to the Parker County Appraisal District board using all 1,005 of the district's votes. No action was taken on the Tarrant County Appraisal District.
Bohn, Director of Construction and Facilities Tyler Boswell and Chief Financial Officer Earl Husfeld outlined the bond's first steps: the architect request for qualifications advertised the previous Friday, a pre-bid meeting Dec. 3, questions due Dec. 5, submissions due Dec. 9 and interviews Dec. 11 through 13, with a board workshop Dec. 10. Assistant Superintendent Amber Crissey reviewed instructional data and the Daniel Ninth Grade Algebra 1 team was featured. After an executive session from 8 to 9 p.m., the meeting adjourned at 9:04 p.m.
