School board authorizes taxable refunding bonds, Series 2020-A, adopts the 2020-2021 improvement plans and 13 policy changes, and marks Tim Buchanan's 300th game

The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met Oct. 19, 2020, with Jennifer Loftin presiding in President Hoyt Harris's absence and Trustees Forrest Collins, Julie Turner, Jessica Brown, Jennifer Taylor and David Lear present. Vandagriff Elementary gave a virtual classroom tour. The board commended the treble choir as a national winner in the Mark of Excellence competition, two National Merit commended students, and head football coach Tim Buchanan for coaching his 300th game at the high school on Sept. 26 against Weatherford. A resident asked that one of the new campuses be named in honor of a former employee. Executive Director of Student Services Scott Kessel summarized COVID-19 numbers.
The consent agenda, approved 6-0, included TASB Policy Update 115, 13 local policies from board policies and vacations to admissions, attendance accounting, child abuse reporting, complaints and grievances, and a 2020-2021 general fund budget amendment. The board approved, each 6-0, the 2020-2021 district and campus improvement plans and an order authorizing the issuance and sale of Aledo ISD Unlimited Tax Refunding Bonds, Taxable Series 2020-A, and delegating authority for their sale and delivery.
Assistant Superintendent Amber Crissey and two collaborative teams reviewed instructional goals, Director of Construction and Facilities Tyler Boswell updated the bond projects and key dates, and the legislative subcommittee discussed possible priorities for the 87th session. Executive session items included the superintendent's performance update and evaluation instrument, real property, a student matter and, under the security provisions, the district police defenses report.
