Aledo ISD Board Room, 1008 Bailey Ranch Road

School board adopts the 2017-2018 calendar over one dissent, opposes the state's A-F system, postpones naming the new elementary, bars candidates from using the district logo, and honors the 2016 state champion football team

The 2015-2016 audit and a sidewalks resolution passed, Morningstar's developers reported on the subdivision, and a 43-year transportation director was honored.

The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met Jan. 23, 2017, with all seven trustees present. The Aledo Learning Center presented. Superintendent Derek Citty reported on the A-F resolution and an extended timeline for hiring the Elementary No. 5 principal, and drew ten teachers for $250 attendance awards. The board honored coach Steve Wood and the seniors of the 2016 Bearcat state champion football team and retiring Transportation Director Steve Bond for 43 years of service, and marked School Board Recognition Month. President Jay Stringer set the superintendent evaluation for a Feb. 7 special meeting, and Citty presented proposed 2017 goals. Bobby J. Rigues reported the 85th session's hot topics: appropriations, vouchers and the A-F system. The local educators' association president thanked trustees, and a resident spoke on the strategic plan and teacher salaries.

Tim Fleet and Kim Gill of Morningstar Development reported on lots, construction, the amenities center and pools; Chief Financial Officer Earl Husfeld and Buford Thompson Construction updated Elementary No. 5 and presented the budget calendar; Executive Director Denise Dugger reported the district's accreditation status as Met Standard; Deputy Superintendent Lynn McKinney presented the first-year evaluation of the 2015-2018 strategic plan; Director of Student Services and Safety Scott Kessel updated the School Health Advisory Council's cultural awareness plan; and the board decided that no candidate may use the district's Bearcat logo in a board election.

The board approved the 2017-2018 school calendar, 5-1, with Dr. David Tillman against; the 2015-2016 audit report, 6-0; a resolution opposing the A-F system, 5-0 with Jennifer Loftin abstaining; postponement of naming Elementary No. 5 as Walsh Elementary, 5-1, with Stringer against; a resolution for sidewalks, 7-0, before David Davis left; and policies DCB(Local) and DCE(Local), 6-0. The meeting adjourned at 10:46 p.m.
