School board adopts its operating procedures manual and Policy Update 108, approves contracts for 20 acres for a new elementary school, and hires a McCall principal
Every vote was 6-0. A scoreboard lease was approved after discussion of sponsorships, and trustees debated agenda and public-comment rules.
The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met July 17, 2017, with six trustees present once Dr. David Tillman arrived at 6:38 p.m. In a work session, trustees discussed reciting the mission statement at meetings, kept the rule that one trustee may place an item on the agenda, and heard Bobby J. Rigues propose not limiting public comment time, with town halls suggested. Aledo Children's AdvoCats presented their programs. Superintendent Derek Citty updated the Bond Steering Committee and said he would seek committees on District of Innovation designation and the strategic plan. Rigues reported the special session's education priorities. Three residents spoke, on transparency and accountability and on board teamwork.
The board pulled the scoreboard lease from the consent agenda, discussed sponsorships and approved it, 6-0; the rest of the consent agenda passed 6-0. Athletic Director Tim Buchanan reported on the athletic program and coaching changes; Chief Financial Officer Earl Husfeld and Buford Thompson Construction updated Walsh Elementary; and Husfeld presented the budget process and the TASB pay systems maintenance study.
The board approved, each 6-0: the Board Operating Procedure Manual; Board Policy Update 108; the 2017-2018 board calendar with meetings moved to June 18 and Feb. 20; and Forrest Collins as TASA/TASB delegate with Julie Turner as alternate. After an executive session from 9:48 to 10:57 p.m., it approved Julie Choate as principal of McCall Elementary and Kacy Mitchell as instructional technology specialist, and approved proposed contracts to purchase 15 acres, more or less, from the Barbara Moore Family Limited Partnership and 5 acres, more or less, from Barbara Lynn Carpenter, each 6-0. The meeting adjourned at 11 p.m.
