Aledo ISD Administration Board Room, 1008 Bailey Ranch Road
School board adopts a Cultural Inclusiveness Plan, 6-1, and after the Florida shooting hears a plan for four more police officers and a trustee's call to hire them immediately
Administrative contracts were extended 7-0. The superintendent proposed a bond planning committee, and attendance-zone policy options were presented.
The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met Feb. 20, 2018, with all seven trustees present. The Aledo Learning Center presented. Superintendent Derek Citty offered condolences to those affected by the school shooting in Florida and said a plan was in place to hire four more police officers in the next school year; Forrest Collins said he would rather see it done immediately than wait for the next fiscal year, and the item was added to the next agenda. Citty also reported declining influenza numbers. The board commended TMEA all-state band and choir students, a child nutrition award, a stock show sculpture winner and the Gatorade Texas boys cross country runner of the year. President Jay Stringer reminded trustees of the Senate Bill 1566 training deadline of Sept. 1, 2018. Two residents spoke, on the budget and bond and on the cultural diversity plan.
The consent agenda, approved 7-0, included charter school considerations for Responsive Ed, Texas Center for Arts and Academics and Great Hearts of Texas, and policy BBB(Local) on board elections. Executive Director of Curriculum Kathy Allen presented attendance-zone policy options and the MAP screener; Chief Financial Officer Earl Husfeld updated 2008 and 2015 bond funding and asked the board to consider student devices and a Chromebook management system; and Citty led a discussion of forming a bond planning committee ahead of the Fast Growth Coalition meeting Feb. 28.
The board approved the Cultural Inclusiveness Plan as presented by the administration, 6-1; the minutes do not record the dissenting vote. It approved 2017-2018 class size exception waivers, 7-0, and after an executive session from 9:51 to 10:23 p.m. voted 7-0 to extend administrative contracts. The meeting adjourned at 10:26 p.m.
