As the pandemic closes schools, the board adds 49 positions for 2020-2021, cancels the May election after candidates go unopposed, and sets the emergency resolution for a Friday vote
Lone Star Furnishings' proposal for Coder, McCall and Stuard furniture passed 7-0 under the 2019 bond. Trustees thanked staff for their handling of the circumstances over spring break.
The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met March 23, 2020, with all seven trustees present in person and remotely. There were no public comments. Board members thanked the administration and staff for their prompt and professional handling of very difficult circumstances, and Superintendent Susan Bohn thanked by name the cabinet members who had worked through spring break.
Bohn explained a proposed resolution delegating authority to the superintendent to act in place of the board during an emergency or disaster due to COVID-19, recommended having it in place for the worst case, said it would be a discussion item on every monthly agenda until discontinued, and asked for trustee feedback before a virtual special meeting that Friday, March 27, at 9 a.m.
The board approved, each 7-0: Lone Star Furnishings, LLC's proposal for elementary furniture replacement at Coder, McCall and Stuard elementaries under the 2019 bond; 49 additional staff positions for 2020-2021, which Deputy Superintendent Lynn McKinney attributed to the district's growth; and the remaining consent items, including the Proclamation 2020 adoption of grades 9-12 English language arts and reading materials, class size waivers, the instructional materials allotment certificate, acceptance of the certificate of unopposed candidates and cancellation of the May 2, 2020, trustee election, a lease for staff laptops, an environmental consultant, and a third-party peer review consultant for required storm shelters. The meeting adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
