The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met Dec. 18, 2023, with all seven trustees present: Forrest Collins, Hoyt Harris, Zachary Tarrant, Jessica Brown, David Lear, Jennifer Taylor and Jennifer Loftin. The high school choir performed. Collins congratulated the varsity football team on its state championship and the band, cheer, dance, parents and community behind it; Superintendent Susan Bohn said it was the program's 12th state title, announced the retirement of longtime employee Amy Slape at the end of the semester, and thanked the PTO for providing desserts for more than 900 employees at the staff holiday event. Lear reported that the Legislature had concluded its fourth special session of the year, discussed the lack of funding disbursement to public schools, and urged voting in the primary. Brown updated the 2023 bond projects.
McCall Elementary presented on its library clubs. The board commended the district's School FIRST financial integrity rating, academic all-state athletes, a perfect score on the AP Computer Science Principles exam, FFA ag advocacy state finalists, the Daniel Ninth Grade biology team, and a Girl Scout troop's Silver Award presentation of sensory boards. The consent agenda passed 7-0 and included Resolution 12182023-1 pertaining to Senate Bill 763, an interlocal agreement to join the Region 10 Education Service Center multi-region purchasing cooperative, and an off-campus PE site.
The board approved, each 7-0: a FIBER11 internal connectivity service agreement for Lynn McKinney Elementary, presented by Director of Technology Brooks Moore; the members of the 2024 Attendance Zone Committee, presented by Assistant Superintendent Ingia Saxton; and the purchase of two vehicles, presented by Chief Financial Officer Earl Husfeld.
Assistant Superintendent Amber Crissey and science staff shared impact walk data and the new science standards; Population and Survey Analyst, the district's demographer, presented the district's 2023 demographic update; Director of Assessment and Accountability Candace Summerhill discussed the 2024-2025 calendar; Husfeld presented the 2022-2023 School FIRST report and a general fund update; Chief Facilities and Construction Officer Chris Campbell updated the bond projects and previewed furniture for the high school, McKinney Elementary and the Steve Wood Complex and Guaranteed Maximum Price #1 for the high school renovations; and Deputy Superintendent Kim Raymond previewed Policy Update 122 and a class-ranking change.
