The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met Oct. 19, 2015, with six trustees present. Aledo High School's theatre teachers and students presented. Superintendent Derek Citty previewed Bearcat Academy, the Nov. 2 and Nov. 16 meetings and Team of Eight training, and reported on the district police department's National Drug Take Back Initiative. The board recognized volleyball coach Kathy Goings for her 600th career victory and several National Merit commended students. President Jay Stringer distributed the superintendent evaluation timeline, and the board kept the Feb. 15, 2016 meeting date. Education foundation executive director Shawn Callaway reported a record number of teaching grant applications and a grant paying for sophomores' PSAT. Bobby J. Rigues reported on the TASA/TASB delegate assembly. There were no public comments.
The board approved, each 6-0: the campus improvement plans; postponing the procedures for public comment to Nov. 16; technology equipment and repair bids; contracting with TASB HR as a consultant on superintendent compensation; and policy DEC(Local).
After an executive session from 8:14 to 9:45 p.m. with the school attorney and on safety and security, the board voted 6-0 to end the district's involvement in the transfer station lawsuit, Cause No. D-1-GV-12-000221 in Travis County District Court, in which the district, Walsh Ranches Limited Partnership and ATH-1187, Ltd. were parties, to have outside counsel take the steps to dismiss it, and to pay related invoices from Mary K. Sahs, P.C.; the Ledger reports the vote and does not characterize the case. It then voted 6-0 to authorize the superintendent to negotiate a contract to purchase property not related to Elementary No. 5. Trustees thanked Police Chief Fred Collie for training, and the meeting adjourned at 9:50 p.m.
