Aledo ISD Board Room, 1008 Bailey Ranch Road
School board hires Buford Thompson as construction manager at risk for Elementary No. 5, hears the Walsh development, and marks a 13th straight top financial rating
Nine action items passed, eight of them 7-0; the board opposed the Athlos Academy charter application and cast all 895 appraisal-district votes for Gary Aguillard. Every playground will get a wheelchair swing.
The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met Nov. 16, 2015, with all seven trustees present. Vandagriff Elementary's student council helped call the meeting to order and played a technology game with the trustees. Superintendent Derek Citty previewed Bearcat Academy, the Thanksgiving break and the holiday party, and said alcohol laws were being enforced in the district. The board recognized the Bearcat Regiment's state competition, the district's Jack Harvey Award winner and a cross country state qualifier. McCall Elementary's principal introduced two fourth graders whose fundraising, with the district and the education foundation, will put a wheelchair swing on every Aledo ISD playground. Foundation executive director Shawn Callaway presented the annual report. A resident spoke about facility fees for Girl Scout meetings.
Landry Burdine, Jake Wagner and Malcolm Louden presented the Walsh development. Denise Dugger reported the state had not yet released the Texas Academic Performance Report; Director of Student Services and Safety Scott Kessel shared results of the May 2015 Texas drug and alcohol survey; Chief Financial Officer Earl Husfeld reported the district's highest School FIRST rating for the 13th straight year and, with Ross Rivers of VLK Architects, updated the bond's controlled entries and technology package.
The board approved, each 7-0: policy BED Exhibits A and B and the school board meeting guide; Buford Thompson as construction manager at risk for Elementary No. 5; the education foundation memorandum of understanding; elementary playground equipment; Board Policy Update 103; casting all 895 of the district's votes for Gary Aguillard in the Parker County Appraisal District election, with no motion for Tarrant County's; opposition to the statement of impact for the Athlos Academy charter school for lack of specifics; and the superintendent evaluation instrument, procedures and schedule. A resolution concerning the appointment of the Texas commissioner of education passed 6-0 with Dr. David Tillman abstaining. No executive session was needed, and the meeting adjourned at 10:10 p.m.
