The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met May 21, 2018, with all seven trustees present. Walsh Elementary presented and wished Superintendent Derek Citty a happy retirement. The board commended the varsity soccer team and coach Vierling as UIL state runners-up, track and field medalists, VASE participants and Duke talent search recipients. Citty thanked those who had helped him through his career; his retirement reception was set for May 30. Bobby J. Rigues explained the 1566 training deadlines for new and returning trustees, Jennifer Loftin reported the education foundation's three-year strategic plan and its June 8 golf tournament, and Chief Financial Officer Earl Husfeld reported a $1,500 Community Partners donation to the AdvoCats.
After an executive session from 8:02 to 8:20 p.m., the board elected Hoyt Harris president, Loftin vice president and Forrest Collins secretary, each 7-0. The consent agenda, approved 7-0, included the audit firm engagement letter and Region 11 contracts. Two parent representatives gave the School Health Advisory Council's annual report, Husfeld updated the budget, and Husfeld said the portable classroom at McAnally Intermediate would be moved over the summer and that Vandagriff Elementary did not need another.
The board approved, each 7-0: an easement to the City of Aledo for an emergency outdoor warning siren; PBS of Texas LLC's proposal for custodial services; Ronnie Walters Lawn Care, LLC's proposal for grounds services; the separation from the Dallas County Schools transportation contract, after Citty said the district had recovered all known assets; a resolution on alternative graduation requirements under Education Code Section 28.02541 for students who entered ninth grade before 2011-12 and did not pass the exit-level test; and phase 2 of the 2018 summer maintenance projects with Trane U.S. Inc., White Horse Painting, Aledo Drywall & Acoustics and American Painting. Policy CDC(Local) on gifts and solicitations, including crowdfunding, was tabled to June, 7-0. Trustees thanked Citty and welcomed Jessica Brown and David Lear, and the meeting adjourned at 10:05 p.m.
