School board opens 2024-2025 with McKinney Elementary and the high school renovations complete, and adopts 19 policy changes
High school lab safety improvements, technology renewals, a custodial amendment and the recapture attendance-credit agreement all passed 7-0.
The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met Aug. 19, 2024, with all seven trustees present. Superintendent Susan Bohn welcomed staff and students back and celebrated the opening of McKinney Elementary School and the renovations at Aledo High School and the Daniel Ninth Grade Campus. Vice President David Lear said the Texas House Public Education Committee had met and that the district's legislative subcommittee would begin its priorities for the 89th session the following week. Trustee Zachary Tarrant updated the 2023 bond projects.
The consent agenda passed 7-0 and included a resolution designating the officer who prepares the district's truth-in-taxation forms, non-business days under the Public Information Act, the agreement to purchase attendance credit under the state's recapture provisions with authority delegated to the superintendent under Texas Education Code Section 11.1511(c)(4), the 2024-2025 appraiser list and calendar, an interlocal agreement with the City of Aledo for a Future Farmers of America sign, 4-H resolutions for Tarrant and Parker counties, the annual child abuse and neglect policy review, and the professional development plan.
The board approved, each 7-0: technology annual license and warranty renewals, presented by Executive Director of Technology Brooks Moore; safety improvements to the Aledo High School lab and a custodial contract amendment for Lynn McKinney Elementary, presented by Chief Facilities and Construction Officer Chris Campbell; Board Policy Update 123, 13 local policies covering board training, conflict-of-interest disclosures, emergency plans, commissioned peace officers, contracts, leaves, employee and student grievances, homebound instruction, instructional and library materials, and public complaints; the 2024 summer board policy review of six policies including the annual operating budget, graduation, transfers and nonschool use of facilities; and vendor lists for multiple requests for proposal.
Assistant Superintendent Amber Crissey presented the 2024-2025 district instructional focus and the professional learning staff had received, and Campbell updated the bond projects and previewed a grounds contract amendment for McKinney Elementary. An executive session on the superintendent's performance update, the 2024-2025 evaluation instrument and contract was posted.
