School board adopts the 2025-2026 calendar as the ag barn nears completion, land is acquired for future facilities, and trustees head to Austin

The superintendent thanked the leadership team for its work amid budget cuts she attributed to state funding shortfalls. Election services contracts for the May 3, 2025, trustee election passed on consent.

The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met Feb. 17, 2025, with Trustees Forrest Collins, Zachary Tarrant, Jeremy Pruett, David Lear, Jennifer Taylor and Jim Scott present. Superintendent Susan Bohn thanked the leadership team for its work even with budget cuts due to state funding shortfalls. Vice President David Lear reported on the 89th Legislative Session and said Bohn and several trustees would travel to Austin the next day to share the district's priorities and concerns about public education funding with area legislators. Trustee Zachary Tarrant said construction on the ag barn would be complete soon, with students and programs moving in the following week, and discussed the district's recent land acquisitions for future facilities.

Vandagriff Elementary and McAnally Middle School presented, and the board commended McKinney Elementary's third-grade team, the month's Bearcats of Character, TMEA All-State choir and band members, the district's recognition as a Career and Technical Association of Texas CTE District of Distinction, the Region 11 Assistant Principal of the Year from McCall Elementary, a new chief of police and director of safety and security, and four Circle of Greatness honorees.

The consent agenda passed 6-0 and included joint election agreements and contracts for election services with the Parker County elections administrator, and authority for the superintendent to contract with the Tarrant County elections administrator, for the May 3, 2025, trustee election, plus a class size waiver. The board's action item, the 2025-2026 district instructional calendar presented by Director of Assessment and Accountability Candace Summerhill, passed 6-0.

Reading language arts staff gave a curriculum update and Summerhill shared middle-of-year assessment data; Chief Facilities and Construction Officer Chris Campbell updated the 2023 bond projects and previewed replacing the Aledo Middle School stadium turf; and Chief Technology Officer Brooks Moore previewed purchases of Chromebooks, air conditioning units for technology networking closets, an auditorium audio upgrade and uninterrupted power supplies. An executive session on the superintendent's performance update was posted.
