The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met May 17, 2022, with President Hoyt Harris and Trustees Forrest Collins, Turner, Jennifer Loftin, Jennifer Taylor and David Lear present; Jessica Brown joined at 8:40 p.m. Collins, Place 4, and Taylor, Place 5, were sworn in to continue serving on the board. Lear reported on the facility planning subcommittee's research with fast-growing districts and said an updated demographic report was due in June.
The board commended two Class of 2022 appointees to the U.S. Air Force Academy and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, UIL robotics, VASE, journalism, BPA and HOSA state qualifiers, the Ledoian yearbook's Pacemaker award, academic all-state athletes, FFA state qualifiers, four Circle of Greatness honorees and seven new leadership team members. Stuard Elementary presented. The consent agenda, approved 6-0, included the cybersecurity awareness training certification.
The board approved, each 6-0: the engagement letter naming Pattillo Brown and Hill as audit firm for 2021-2022; a change order for the 2019 bond Early Childhood Academy project; and participation in the TASB Energy Cooperative fixed-rate fuel program. After an executive session that included contemplated litigation and settlement offers and board officer qualifications, the board voted 6-0 to authorize the superintendent to negotiate final terms of a possible settlement of construction claims and execute the required documents, then elected Harris president, Brown vice president and Collins secretary, each 6-0.
Instructional specialists reported growth in the gifted and talented program, McAnally Intermediate's sixth-grade science team was featured, Director of Facilities and Construction Tyler Boswell updated the 2019 bond, and Executive Director of Student Services Scott Kessel discussed the Health I textbook, the only one the state has approved for districts to adopt.
